“United to Christ we are never alone, but we form one single Body, of which He is the Head.” These words of Pope Francis from an empty St Peter’s Square give us a path through this difficult time. As our diocese, country, and world continue through the COVID-19 pandemic, this page will be regularly updated with information on the Church’s response, prayers for your whānau to pray together, and other helpful resources to use at home.
As we now celebrate the Easter season as a Church, we invite you to recall the light of Christ each week through the action of lighting a candle at the start of your time of prayer.
Choose a candle you will dedicate as your Easter candle as a symbol of togetherness, as the Church usually lights the Paschal Candle at the Easter Vigil. Each time you gather to pray you may like to say the following as you light the candle:
Nau mai haere mai e Hehu Karaiti ko koe te rawhiti o te ao.
Welcome Jesus, you are the light of the world.
