YCL is a “Formation by Participation” opportunity for students from colleges in the Diocese of Palmerston North entering Year 13 in 2024. “Formation by Participation” means that the more a participant puts into participating in the activities, the more they will gain. All activities will be overseen by staff of the Diocese but participants will interact with each other and choose their own level of involvement within the supportive peer environment.
YoungCatholicLeader (YCL) 2024 is planned to run from Monday December 16 – Friday December 20 at Highland Home Christian Camp in the beautiful Pohangina Valley in the Manawatu.
YCL asks participants to take part in a variety of activities to encourage and form them in Catholic leadership.
The special emphasis of this event is on what it means to be a faithful Catholic leader 24/7, not just at school. Activities focus on prayer, service, collaboration, challenge and personal commitment. There are a number of talks given by young adults, and outdoor activities such as physical challenges.
Beyond the sessions, students participate in group building, Catholic prayer and Mass, and the normal duties associated with being on camp for five days.
The event is run by the Catholic Diocese of Palmerston North by professional and volunteer staff, and supported by the staff of Highland Home.
The Health and Safety system for the event will include a full RAMS form, including safeguarding training for the leaders, prior to the commencement of the programme.
