During Lent Fr Marcus Francis, Parish Priest of The Catholic Parish of Whanganui – Te Parihi Katorika Ki Whanganui, is offering a series of Wednesday-evening lectures about the Catholic faith. Held at Te Rau Oriwa Marae in St Mary’s Church complex, Guyton St, the lectures are open to Catholics in the parish community as well as the to the wider community.

The series has been promoted widely in the parish newsletter, school-to-home newsletters and in secular newspapers.

‘These sessions are a sincere gesture to invite anyone along to deepen their understanding of what the Catholic Church is about and to engage in dialogue in a spirit of goodwill,’ Fr Marcus says.

The first lecture on 21 February, entitled The Catholic Church & Sex?, was followed on 28 February by: Pope Francis – what is he doing?.

The remaining lectures through March are:

7 March: Latin Mass – Vatican II – what is the difference?

14 March: Ordination of women?

21 March: Salvation for the non-baptised?

28 March: The Easter Mystery.

Each lecture starts at 7pm, with Fr Marcus giving his presentation followed by questions and answers. Entry is by gold coin donation.
