Trappist Monks, Kopua Monastery, Hawkes Bay
Life at Kopua is our version of the ancient tradition of Cistercian monasticism, designed to foster the experience of God and growth in prayerfulness and love. It is a spirituality of the heart, nurtured by contact with the Scriptures and safeguarded by the simplicity that follows adherence to the Rule of St Benedict. Cistercian spirituality is both a school of self-knowledge and a school of love – by fostering the restoration of God’s image in the monk and in the monastic community we hope to establish heaven on earth: the “cloistral paradise” of which medieval monks wrote so eloquently.
