At St Matthews School in Marton, the 2025 Year of Jubilee theme, Pilgrims of Hope, was launched in a meaningful and engaging way through a series of events led by Principal Tumua Pala’aia. Drawing on PNCEO resources and their own knowledge and inquiry, Tumua facilitated a staff formation day before the school year began, providing teachers with the opportunity to reflect on the theme, deepen their understanding of its significance, and explore ways to integrate it into the school’s faith life and curriculum.
To bring the theme to the wider school community, a whole-school liturgy and learning session was held, creating a shared space for students and staff to engage with Pilgrims of Hope.
Recognising the importance of strong connections between school and whānau, a Whanaungatanga afternoon was also organised, welcoming parents and caregivers into the school community. The event began with breaking open the Jubilee theme, Pilgrims of Hope.
