Yesterday morning Monsignor John Carde died peacefully at Vincentian Home and Hospital where he had been residing for the last few months.
John was a former Vicar-General and Parish Priest around several parishes in the Diocese (including Nelson, Lower Hutt, Mount Victoria, Paraparaumu and Seatoun, and was also based in Stratford and Palmerston North). He was part of the Māori Mission on the East Coast and an army chaplain in New Zealand, Singapore and Vietnam.
There will be many in the Archdiocese who have personally been touched by his gentle presence and pastoral wisdom. May he rest in peace.
